"SOUF 6TH" CANVAS AND IMPROMPTU EXHIBITION
Geographically I describe my album "SOUF 6TH" as South meets Southwest. Since that's where I grew up it's only natural my art reflect my environment. Tyler (the model) is also an embodiment of South meets Southwest; splitting time between Memphis, Texas and Arizona. With him as my muse I decided to re-work a photo shoot into a collection of canvased art.
The colors I chose are the official colors of ROAM SOSHAL (Red, Yellow, Black and a shade of Turquoise Blue) Each color, like a nation's flag, represents a core value and what it means to "ROAM SOSHAL". Red for passion and intensity. Yellow for optimism and joy. Black for elegance and mystique and the faded blue adds an element of bleakness; what is the bleakness? Is it negative or is it neutral?
The word "SOUF" in yellow spray paint hangs above the canvas as if it is "vandalizing" the pieces. This perception of graffiti has almost come to define it. I took the canvas' and set them up in the neighborhood we shot the photos in during the dead of night. In the morning who would find them? Would anyone care? Would they be thrown away, considered trash or "vandalism"? Would someone actually take a piece home and hang it on their wall? I'll never know... I never went back to check.
